Ian Welland

Ian Welland graduated from ASU with a degree in physics in Summer 2015 and started in the Joint CMU-Pitt Ph.D. Program in Computational Biology in Fall 2015. During his time in Beckstein Lab, Ian worked on the problem of how to quantitatively describe and analyze the solvation of macromolecules, drawing on computational techniques such as MD simulations and Markov Chain Monte Carlo, but also using graph theoretic approaches together with ideas from statistical processes. Ian is still, presumably, interested in the intersection of physics and biology, and the use of statistical physical approaches to understanding biomolecular processes.

Ian wrote about his experience as an undergraduate researcher in biophysics for the Sundial Project in the post Summer Biophysics Research at ASU: Ian Welland . He also presented his research at the 2014 Sundial Summer Program to incoming freshmen.
