Kathleen Clark
Kathleen “Kacey” Clark joined the Physics major program in the Department of Physics in Fall 2016 and is a student at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University.
Kacey is a Bidstrup Foundation Undergraduate Fellow. She is working on a project in the lab under the guidance of David Dotson where she is building a reusable data acquisition and analysis pipeline to characterize the interactions between ions and proteins. The input data are crystal structures from the Protein Databank. MDAnalysis is used to analyze the data. The initial focus is on a statistical analysis of the coordination numbers of ions, in particular oxygen-cation interactions. Code is available under an open source license at github.com/Becksteinlab/PDB_Ion_Survey. The work was started under the BioXFEL Ed Scientific Villages at ASU program when she was still a high school student.
Kacey’s first contact with the Beckstein Lab occurred when she was a student at Mesquite High School. She participated in the BioXFEL BioVizSim Village: Experiencing Molecules outreach project in the summer of 2015, with Sean Seyler and Ian Kenney.
